Poker Strategy and Psychology – You’re Near The Money, Now What Do You Do?

Strategy

This guide is maybe more strongly related a Multi-Table Tournament (MTT) with several hundred players, rather than a Single Table Tournament (STT) using a small number of entrants.

It’s the simple fact I’ve seen many poker players perform really well in the early and middle phases of a tournament, just for their game to go to pieces at a critical point. Either once they get near the prize money cutoff (called the bubble), or shortly after actually rendering it in the income.

I have done it many days, however I’m getting better!

Let’s say I put in an MTT using 600 players. I am playing well,ทางเข้าGclub going along nicely and playing some great poker. 80 players left. I start nervously and repeatedly checking my position to determine how close I am into the money, and I am willing different players to go out. I am not playing with any hands, folding starting hands with great potential. I am not defending my blinds and I’m playing way too tight. I’m frightened and nervous to head out thus near the prize money. And it’s not just mepersonally, most of the other players ‘ are behaving the same way too!

The bolder players are taking full advantage of the weakness within their own competitors. They have been raising and betting, attacking the dividers and bullying the bigger piles that are nervously expecting to scratch in the income. Who has the better strategy here?

Now let’s say I find a way to live and I’m now in the currency. 60 players I’m in 49th position. Without doing any such thing, in a handful minutes I notice I’m 40th out of 50! Players that are therefore relieved to get it into the currency are becoming far too loose and simply using a punt making use of their cards. The end result is that the playing field quickly and significantly reduces at the moments after the prize money bubble is reached.

I’ve found that a excellent strategy is to fundamentally not in favor of your usual human emotion of fear when close to the bubble, and attempt to play normally or just a bit more vigorously to benefit from those inactive players who are playing too tight.

After the bubble resist the natural temptation to give in to the relief of surviving in to the prize money. Play tight for a couple of minutes and search for opportunities to utilize strong starting hands against opponents who are obviously just happy to have made the cash.

Hope this helps and good luck at the tables!
